On the topic of "Divided by algorithms - Journalism in the digital social machine? (in German: "Divided by algorithms - Journalism in the digital social machine?"), the Grimme-Institute held a session at the Global Media Forum in Bonn on June 19 in front of about 70 guests. The topic of the session picked up on the motto "Overcoming divisions" of the 16th International Media Conference, hosted by Deutsche Welle (DW) at the World Conference Center Bonn, in the former parliament building. Over the course of two days, more than 2,000 participants from over 160 countries discussed with media professionals and decision-makers from politics, civil society, culture, education, business and science the opportunities of active and strong journalism in overcoming international problems in the face of growing global divisions. 

At this year's Grimme-Institute session, speakers included Dr. Harald Gapski (Head of Grimme Research), Dr. Karin Boczek (Junior Professor of Digital Journalism at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt and member of the nomination committee for the Grimme Online Award 2023) and Lara Berger (Research Associate and PhD student at the Chair of Media Economics at the University of Cologne). Together with the University of Cologne, the Grimme Institute founded the Grimme Research College, which already conducted research in projects on journalism and media.
